Heading towards the Orkney Islands, the entire
Imperial German High Seas Fleet, totaling
74 war ships the most moden of their time.
Steaming in single line formation covering
a total distance of 19 miles, heading for
internment within the Britsh anchorage of
Scapa Flow.

Thursday the 21st of November 1918. 10 days
after the ending of hostilities. The entire
German Navy is interned within Scapa Flow
while the terms of surrender are negotiated.

On Saturday the 21st of June 1919. Admiral
von Reuter, the Commanding Officer of the
Fleet, fearing the British were about to seize
the fleet as war bounty, sent a coded signal
to all ships to scuttle. By the end of that
day 70 ships were sunk.

Over the following years most of the German
ships were salveged. However there are still
12 German ships on the bottom of Scapa Flow,
with many other naval and commercial wrecks
to explore.
